My previous personal website was built with a Ruby based static site generator called Middleman. I got tired of dealing with Ruby, wrangling markdown files, and managing a bespoke blogging setup, so I decided to just use a blogging service called Ghost. I hope this will save me some time and allow me to write more.
I also looked at Wordpress, but decided on Ghost because I thought the UI/UX of the editor felt sleeker and less cluttered. Both are open source projects, but Wordpress uses PHP on the backend whereas Ghost is built with full stack JS: Ember on the frontend and Express on backend. I use JS pretty much every day, which will make it much easier for me if I ever wanted to modify or host this Ghost blog on my own.
All my old blog posts are of no interest to myself or anyone else, so I've decided to not migrate them over and just start fresh with this new blog.
