Also known as LSD, acid is a potent psychedelic drug made from a mushroom, a fun fact I actually learned from the video game adapted TV show The Last of Us.
But most people know that already. What is less known is that ACID is also an acronym used by database developers. The first use of the acronym occurred sometime in 1970s, a period of widespread experimental drug use in America. Apparently, a bearded database developer was tripping on acid when he got the idea to invent the ACID acronym. It spread like wildfire. From that point on, database developers around the world had a mantra they could rely on in times of great need, e.g. creating safe and reliable database queries.
So what does ACID stand for?
Atomicity
Consistency
Isolation
Durability
